Blue Jays split duals, nip Coyotes

By Jamestown Sun Staff, The Jamestown Sun
John M. Steiner / The Sun Jamestown’s Willy Marler posted times of 22.31 in the 50 free and 49.74 in the 100 free in a pair of duals against Williston and West Fargo.

The Blue Jays won one and lost one Friday night.

The JHS swimmers and divers edged out Williston, but fell to loaded West Fargo.

All three teams and several others will be back at it today for the Blue Jay Invite, which begins at 10:30 a.m.

The dual with the Coyotes was tight, but the Blue Jays squeaked out a 96-90 win.

A 1-2-3 finish on the diving board by Hunter Munson (180.50), Riley Thom (163.50) and Brett Goehner (149.25) was key in the win.

The only other top-place finish individually came from Cody Kilgore, who won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.89.

Andy Oslund, Braydon Love, Colt Rasmussen and Willy Marler teamed to win the 200 free relay in 1:35.02.

Willy Marler finished second to Williston’s Ben Bolinske in both the 50 (21.74-22.31) and 100 (48.30-49.74) freestyles.

The butterfly was a good event for the Blue Jays as Nick Bercier qualified for state for the first time, touching in 1:07.17. Hunter Boehm had the second-fastest time among the three teams in 1:04.17. Cayden Hare (1:12.72) was also in the mix.

Andy Oslund was behind only Bolinske and Marler in the 50 (23.75).

Curtis Grant had a season-best 2:26.16 in the 200 IM.

Colt Rasmussen had the second-best time in both of his events, touching in 1:58.47 in the 200 and 5:30.98 in the 500, although he did win his match-up against West Fargo.

West Fargo’s depth was too much for the Jays — 120-66 — although JHS did win five of the 12 events.
